Five From the Farmer’s Kitchen: Chicken Wings


Chicken wings spend most of the year barely remembered. Even here, I often forget to cook them unless we are having a celebration of some sort.  But they are always a crowd pleaser, nutrient dense due to the connective tissue and the most budget-friendly friendly cut  

Then February rolls around… and suddenly they’re the MVP.Super Bowl Sunday is the single biggest wing-eating day in America. Americans eat over 1.4 billion chicken wings that day alone — enough to circle the Earth more than three times if laid end to end. Wild.

So, whether you’re feeding a house full of fans or just watching for the commercials, wings deserve their moment. And now is a great time to stock upHere are five wing ideas from our kitchen to yours 


1️⃣ Classic Crispy Oven Wings (Game-Day Staple)

Fast & EasyPat wings dry, toss with salt, baking powder (key for crisp skin), and a little oil.
Roast at 425°F for 40–45 minutes, flipping once.Finish with your favorite wing sauce.


2️⃣ Smoked Wings (Low & Slow Crowd-Pleaser)

Slow CookSmoke at 250°F for about 90 minutes, then crank the heat to crisp.➡️ Toss in a dry rub before smoking.
➡️ Perfect for folks who want wings without sticky fingers during the game.

3️⃣ Sticky Sesame Wings

A Little Fancy (but still finger food)Make a sauce with

  • ¼ cup honey  
  • 1 ½ tablespoons coconut amnios 
  • 1 teaspoon unseasoned, organic rice vinegar (apple cider vinegar will work too)
  • 3/4 teaspoon pink or sea salt
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon peeled and minced ginger

Simmer for about 10 minutes until it reduces by 1/2.  add 

  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste

Pour over cooked wings and toss with 

  • scallions and sesame seeds for serving

4️⃣ Crispy Wing “Burnt Ends”

Make-Ahead FavoriteRoast wings until crispy, cool completely, then reheat at 400°F for 10–15 minutes right before serving.➡️ Perfect if kickoff timing is unpredictable

5️⃣ Wing Bone Broth (The Unsung Hero)
